Team of the Week: Vandegrift
Has anyone been more impressive defensively this season than the Vipers? Vandegrift (3-0, 1-0 District 13-6A) kept a very good Cedar Ridge offense in check during a 28-7 win as it yielded its first score of the season during the second quarter, ending a 117-minute scoreless streak. The Vipers held the Raiders to less than 220 total yards while blocking a punt for a touchdown. Vandegrift quarterback Dru Dawson threw for 153 yards and three touchdowns, with running back Bowen Lewis compiling 107 yards on the ground.
Player of the Week: Kendall Thomas, Stony Point
Thomas, a senior who is pledged to play at Furman, rushed for 233 yards and four touchdowns as the Tigers (3-0, 1-0) opened district play with a 66-14 win over Leander by going for 443 yards on the ground. Thomas scored on runs of 32, 67, 16 and 25 yards. Jaden Leonard added 149 yards and two touchdowns rushing, while Jackson Tingler threw for 164 yards and two scores.
Honorable mention: Adam Fogg, Vista Ridge
Fogg hauled in an astounding 13 receptions for 197 yards and two touchdowns as Vista Ridge (3-0, 1-0) stayed perfect on the year with a 42-14 win over McNeil. Both of his scoring catches came from 15 yards out from quarterback Kyle Brown, who should also be in this category after completing 32 of 39 passes for 392 yards and three scores.
The rest of the district
Westwood (2-1, 1-0) used a 2-point conversion pass from R.J. Martinez to Jace Lyne with less than three minutes remaining to take a 28-27 win over Hendrickson. The Warriors had climbed to within 27-26 on Martinez’s 4-yard toiuchdown pass to Oliver Yu prior to going for two. Martinez and Yu connected on three passing scores, Martinez finishing with 320 yards through the air and Yu snagging five catches for 122 yards. Xavier Lucio threw for 155 yards and a score and ran for 52 yards to pace Hendrickson (1-2, 0-1). … Deuce Vaughn rushed for 99 yards to lead Cedar Ridge (1-2, 0-1) in its loss to Vandegrift. … Luke Hutchison passed for 226 yards and two touchdowns to pace McNeil (1-2, 0-1). … Xavier Dotson caught a 34-yard TD pass and returned a kickoff 89 yards for a score to lead Leander (0-3, 0-1).

Game of the Week: Vista Ridge at Westwood
This game at Dragon Stadium may have huge playoff implications down the line with the winner taking a huge step towards one of the district’s four postseason spots. Both teams started off district play with a win, and both teams will need this game, as the loser will have a tougher path to the playoffs going forward.
Cedar Ridge goes to Leander with both teams hoping to pick up a district win. The Raiders have had two tough losses in a row, falling to Cedar Park and Vandegrift. … After a bye, Round Rock (2-0) opens up district play at Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex against McNeil. … Vandegrift hosts Hendrickson to round out the district slate.
