Team of the Week: Stony Point
The Tigers enter district play 2-0 for the second year in a row after a 52-28 win over Harker Heights. Senior running back Kendall Thomas, a Furman pledge, ran wild for Stony Point, finishing with 180 yards and four touchdowns, while quarterback Kyle Overton added 280 yards passing as the Tigers compiled nearly 500 yards of total offense. Andre Woods had 107 yards receiving and Jake Chambers finished with nine tackles in other notable numbers for Stony Point.
Player of the Week: Kyle Brown, Vista Ridge
Brown, a junior, threw for 269 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 51 yards and two more scores as the Rangers moved to 2-0 a year after going 1-9 with a 51-29 win over Killeen. He connected with four different receivers for scores, with Adam Fogg being his favorite target by hauling in six catches for 106 yards. Brown connected on 20 of 29 passes during the game and both of his scoring yards came on sneaks from the 1.
Honorable mention: Winston Hutchison, McNeil
Hutchison ran for 268 yards and four touchdowns as the Mavericks (1-1) topped Glenn, 48-29. Three of Hutchison’s scores came on jaunts of 50 or more yards, as he scored on runs of 78, 53, 50 and 3 yards. McNeil quarterback Luke Hutchison threw for a TD and ran for another as the Mavericks built a five-touchdown lead at one point during the contest.
The rest of the district
Round Rock (2-0) received 295 yards and two touchdowns passing from quarterback Seth Ford as it topped Belton, 42-30. Both of Ford’s touchdown passes went to Collin Sullivan, who finished with 10 catches for 168 yards. Dragons running back Israel Morgan finished with 215 yards and a score on the ground, while Jordan Smart added two rushing TDs. Ford also reached the end zone with his legs. … Westwood quarterback RJ Martinez continued to put up monster numbers as he threw for 398 yards and three touchdowns in the Warriors’ 41-39 win over Austin High. Julian DeBerry caught seven passes for 199 yards and two scores, while Nate Anderson rushed for 125 yards and two touchdowns. … Vandegrift (2-0) defeated Killeen Ellison, 14-0, and still has not yielded a point on the year following a 17-0 win over Cedar Park in the first week of the season. The Vipers are the District 13-6A defending champs and will be the favorite to repeat until they lose. … Cedar Ridge (1-1) lost 26-14 to Cedar Park. Jack Turner threw for a touchdown and ran for another to lead the Raiders. … Leander (0-2) fell to Pflugerville, 27-20, in a tight game at The Pfield. Xavier Dotson had 93 yards and three touchdowns rushing to lead the Lions. … Hendrickson (1-1) lost to Smithson Valley 43-15.

Game of the Week: Vandegrift at Cedar Ridge
District play starts this week for 13-6A, and if last year is any indication, this might be the district-championship game. Vandegrift has yet to yield a point while defeating Cedar Park and Killeen Ellison to start the year, while Cedar Ridge hopes to get its offense back on track after a loss to Cedar Park.
Vista Ridge hopes to continue its hot start when it hosts McNeil. … Hendrickson hosts Westwood in a battle of two 1-1 teams, and Stony Point hosts Leander. … Round Rock has a bye.
