CEDAR PARK — Stony Point exploded for 30 points and 244 of total offense in the third quarter to race past visiting Vista Ridge 44-0 in District 13-6A football action on Friday in Cedar Park.
Tiger quarterback Jackson Tingler completed 15-of-19 passes for 294 yards including touchdown tosses of 64 yards to Tyler O’Bannon and 19 yards to Daelen Loyden. Tiger running back Kendall Thomas rushed for 67 yards on 14 carries with scoring runs of 1-,2- and 12-yards as Stony Point remains in the playoff hunt.
Tigers scored on their first possession as Stony Point staged a 14-play, 92-yard drive with Thomas running the final one yard for the only touchdown of the first half. Ross Hinds added the extra point as the Tigers led 7-0 after the 5:59 drive but neither team reached the red zone in the duration of the first half.
Stony Point took the second half kickoff and staged a 75-yard drive with Thomas scoring on a 2-yard run to cap the effort. Following a Vista Ridge punt, the Tigers struck quickly as Tingler eased a screen pass to O’Bannon who cut into the middle of the field and raced 64 yards for the score.
On the next Tiger possession, Tingler connected with Daelen Loyden for a 19-yard scoring pass with Hinds adding his fourth extra point kick. Vista Ridge had a return error on the ensuing kickoff with the return man running out and then returning to the end zone and being called on a safety, giving the Tigers a 30-0 lead with 4:23 left in the third.
Stony Point took advantage of the short field following the free kick with Tyler Cleveland scoring on a 31-yard run and Hinds converting the point after. Thomas added his third and final touchdown on a 12-yard run with just over seven minutes left in the game.
O’Bannon’s two catches for 86 yards led the Tiger receivers while Thailand Mayberry led the Vista Ridge offense with 87 yards rushing on 19 carriers while Drew Cantu completed 8-of-18 passes for 68 yards with one interception.
